Urban Pugilist began in the spring of 2014 as a coaching initiative for young boxers. Over time, it evolved into a creative and cultural platform dedicated to boxing—not just as a sport, but as a metaphor for resilience, discipline, and transformation.
We aim to support the boxing community by curating relevant content, sparking meaningful dialogue, and promoting innovative thinking. Our goal is to become a reusable source of insight and inspiration for boxers, coaches, and enthusiasts alike.
Daryl Horton launched Urban Pugilist after a decorated collegiate boxing career at the United States Naval Academy. He began in the 132-lb weight class, winning all but one match in his freshman year. From sophomore to senior year, he competed in the 147-lb class, becoming a 3-time Brigade Boxing Champion and 2-time National Collegiate Boxing runner-up. As co-captain of the Academy’s Boxing Team, Daryl helped lead the team to multiple victories and earned the Emerson Smith Sportsmanship Award his senior year.
